Soulfly Information
Soulfly is a heavy metal band from the United States formed in 1997 in Los Angeles, California. Mike Leon (bass and backing vocals), Zyon Cavalera (drums and percussion), Marc Rizzo (lead guitar), and Max Cavalera (lead guitar) make up the current configuration of the band (lead vocals and rhythm guitar). The band has eleven studio albums, one tour EP, twenty-three singles, one video album, and twelve music videos to their credit.
Soulfly, their first album, was published on April 21, 1998, and Ritual, their most recent album, was released on October 19, 2018. Like Cavalera’s former band Sepultura, Soulfly combines various metal elements with Brazilian tribal and world music. All six of their studio albums debuted on the Billboard 200 in the United States, with Primitive, their second album, reaching number 32. The Recording Industry Association of America has given Soulfly a Gold certification.
The band’s lineup has changed many times. Cavalera has been the sole permanent member, but guitarist Marc Rizzo has performed on all of their albums save the first three. Nu metal, thrash metal, groove metal, and death metal have all been used to characterize Soulfly. Soulfly’s music frequently combines global music components such as tribal music and Middle Eastern music.
Soulfly’s albums include Prophecy (2004), Dark Ages (2005), Conquer (2008), Omen (2010), Enslaved (2012), Savages (2013), Archangel (2015), and Ritual (2016). Some of the band’s associated acts include Sepultura, Ministry, Cavalera Conspiracy, Prong, Fear Factory, Primer 55, Killer Be Killed, Asesino, Marc Rizzo, and the Corrupters, Slipknot, Buck Satan and the 666 Shooters, Lody Kong, and Nailbomb.
