Slippery When Wet is the third studio album released by Bon Jovi, an American rock band. The album was released on August 18, 1986, in North America by Mercury Records and internationally by Vertigo Records. Bruce Fairbairn produced the album and it featured many of Bon Jovi's best-known songs, such as "Livin' on a Prayer," "You Give Love a Bad Name," and "Wanted Dead or Alive." Slippery When Wet gained instant commercial success. The album spent eight weeks at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. It was named as the top-selling album of 1987 by Billboard.
To date, Slippery When Wet is Bon Jovi's best-selling album, and it is 12x platinum certified by RIAA. This made the album one of the top 100 best-selling albums in the nation. Slippery When Wet was also featured in the 2005 book named 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora wrote the majority of the collection. The name of the album was changed during its inception and was decided to be Wanted Dead Or Alive. Its current name was chosen when the members visit The No.5 Orange strip club in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The cover of the album shows a wet black garbage bag with the words "Slippery When Wet" which is traced in the water. Slippery When Wet was re-issued as a DualDisc in 2005. The CD side of this contains a newly remastered version while the DVD side contains the same album in its original stereo mix.
