Rebecca Lucy Taylor (October 15, 1986) is an English singer and songwriter. She was born in Rotherham, England. Previously, Taylor was a part of the folk duet Slow Club, founded in Sheffield in 2006. Charles Watson and Taylor, two multi-instrumentalists who played guitar, drums, piano, and both, served as the band's frontmen. Following a lengthy tour in promotion of their most recent record, the band disbanded in 2017 due to Taylor's unhappiness and different musical tastes.
She built her logo on Freddie Mercury's signature because she is a huge fan of Queen. In 2017, Taylor released "Your Wife," her debut track under the Self Esteem alias. Compliments Please, her self-titled first album was released on Fiction Records on March 1, 2019. The singles "Wrestling," "Rollout," "The Best," and "Girl Crush" came before the album. In 2019, Self Esteem finished a tour of the UK and performed at events like Glastonbury, British Summer Time, and Latitude.
The lead single from Taylor's second album, Self Esteem, "I Do This All The Time," was made available in April 2021. Jack Antonoff and Tracey Thorn both praised the song. She debuted the album's lead single in July and said that Prioritize Pleasure would be released in October of the same year, coinciding with a UK tour. The third single from Self Esteem, "How Can I Help You," was made available in August. All three music videos were directed by Taylor and shot at the Almeida Theatre.
