Scott Miller Information
Allen Scott Miller (1968) is an American Southern rock and alternative country singer, guitarist, and songwriter from Swoope, Virginia. Also known as A. Scott Miller, he graduated from William & Mary. In 1990, Miller moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, and in 1994, he co-founded a band named Viceroys, which was later renamed The V-Roys. The group was the very first act that signed on Steve Earle’s label, E-Squared Records. In 1999, the band split-up, and Miller founded a new band, Scott Miller and the Commonwealth.
Miller released four studio albums under this band, including Thus Always to Tyrants (2001), Upside Downside (2003), Citation (2006), and Reconstruction (2007) (live, independent release). As a solo artist, he released Are You With Me? (2000), For Crying Out Loud (2008), Christmas Gift EP (2010), Big Big World (2013), and Ladies Auxiliary (2017).
Miller’s music reflects his degrees in American History and Russian Studies, along with references to his family, history, home life, and writers. He also collaborated with filmmaker James Weems and photographer Glen Rose for Going Home, a mini-documentary. The documentary explores his music and his journey in returning to the family farm.
