School of Rock Information
School of Rock is a musical with lyrics by Glenn Fellowes and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Julian Fellowes wrote the book of the musical. It is based on the 2003 film of the same name. School of Rock follows Dewey Finn, an out-of-work rock singer, and guitarist pretending to be a substitute teacher at a prep school. He identifies the musical talent in his students and forms a band consisting of fifth-graders. The group competes in the upcoming Battle of the Bands contest.
Before the musical’s debut, staged concerts were arranged in June 2015 in Manhattan at Gramercy Theatre. The musical made its Broadway debut and the world premiere at the Winter Garden Theatre on December 6, 2015. Laurence Connor was the director, whereas JoAnn M. Hunter offered choreography.
The West End debut of the School of Rock took place on November 14, 2016, at the Gillian Lynne Theatre. The original Broadway cast for the School of Rock includes Alex Brightman as Dewey Finn, Sierra Boggess as Rosalie Mullins, Spencer Moses as Ned Schneebly, Mamie Parris as Patty Di Marco, Taylor Caldwell as Shonelie, Evie Dolan as Katie, Jersey Sullivan as James, Corinne Wilson as Sophie, and Carly Gendell as Marcy.
