Scandal Information
Scandal is a Japanese all-female rock band founded in August 2006 and originated from Miyakojima-ku, Osaka. The group’s music is defined as pop-rock, pop-punk, garage rock, and alternative rock type. Scandal encompasses four high school girls, Haruna Ono (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Mami Sasazaki (lead guitar, vocals), Tomomi Ogawa (bass guitar, vocals), and Rina Suzuki (drums, keyboards, guitar, vocals). The girls used to play live street performances until the indie label Kitty Records signed them.
Scandal released three single tracks along with a mini-album in 2008. At the same time, the girls were touring France, the US, and Hong Kong. In October of the same year, the band released its major debut single named “Doll.” Scandal performs the theme songs for many anime series such as “Harukaze” for Bleach, “Pride” for Star Driver, “Shunkan Sentimental” for Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and A.M.D.K.J.” for “GeGeGe no Kitaro.”
Scandal has successfully built an international fanbase, with their fans voting them into the top ten of the “Most-Requested Artists” category of the J-MELO Awards. This has been happening every year since 2010, and the band peaked in first place in 2014. In 2019, it was announced by the girls that they would establish their private record label named “Her.”
Some of the notable albums by Scandal are Temptation Box (2010), Queens Are Trumps: Kirifuda wa Queen (2012), and Hello World (2014). The group’s previous tours include Give me P.P. Tour 2008, Scandal: Shunkan Sakurazensen Tour 2010, Scandal Live Tour 2011 “Dreamer,” and Scandal Hall Tour 2013 “Standard.”
