Sampha Information
Sampha Lahai Sisay (November 16, 1988) is an English singer, musician, record producer, and songwriter. He was born in London, England. He first became exposed to music while practicing piano at his parents' house in Morden and listening to records passed down from his elder brothers.
After his older brother Sanie constructed a makeshift home studio, he became interested in music creation as a young adolescent. In addition, he spent several years as an A-level music student at Ewell Castle School, which he revisited in 2017 to inaugurate a brand-new music studio. After meeting London producer Kwes on Myspace in 2007, Sampha claimed that Kwes's music had a profound impact on his life.
Mica "Micachu" Levi, Ghostpoet, DELS, and his current label home, Young, were all musicians that Kwes introduced him to and helped him navigate. The label employed Sampha as an intern in 2009. In addition to meeting SBTRKT, Jessie Ware, Bullion, and Lil Silva via Young, Sampha was able to remix 'Basic Space' by The xx. Another grime musician from the group SLK, Flirta D, is Sampha's cousin.
