Run Westy Run Information
Run Westy Run is a busty punk garage rock band founded by Kyle and his brothers Kraig and Kirk Johnson. Kyle was the original rhythm guitarist of the beloved hit Minneapolis-oriented band, while the other two brothers were on bass and lead vocals, respectively. The group was created in 1984. Later on, the co-founders added guitarist Terry Fisher and drummer Bob Joslyn to enhance the overall band's theme.
Run Westy Run releases its two initial discographies via SST Records. Later on, the band moved to hometown label Twin/Tone Records and finally to A&M. The latter released their final album entitled David's Drum in 1995. In 1994, Kyle said his last goodbye to the group and departed. The brothers and other members continued the punk garage band by participating in many other projects.
Run Westy Run experienced a series of reunion shows in the early 2000s. The first show was named First Avenue and the Turf Club. It was followed by other reunion shows at the Amsterdam Bar and Hall in St. Paul. In 2014, Kyle died at the age of 54. His memorial service took place on August 23, 2014, in Minnesota.
