Robin Zander Information
Robin Zander (January 23, 1953) is an American rhythm guitarist, singer, and songwriter from Beloit, Wisconsin. His music is classified as power pop, hard rock, rock, and southern rock. Zander started playing guitar at 12. He went to Harlem High School in Machesney Park, Illinois, and played in many high school bands. In the 1960s, he joined Brian Beebe and founded the folk duo named Zander & Kent.
Zander accepted an invitation to join Cheap Trick in 1974, and they released an album entitled Cheap Trick at Budokan in 1979. The album brought massive stardom to the band and reached the Top 10 in the U.S. charts. "I Want You to Want Me" and "The Flame" are the two hit singles on the album. Zander has performed 5,000 shows with Cheap Trick. As a Cheap Trick member, Zander was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.
As a solo artist, Zander released a self-titled album in 1993. His second album, entitled Countryside Blvd, was released online in April 2011, but unfortunately, the album was withdrawn within hours of its release. Some of the other notable singles by Zander are "In This Country" (1987), "You Send the Rain Away" (1987), "Surrender To Me," and "I've Always Got You" (1993).
There is a long list of rock singers who have been greatly influenced by Zander's vocal style, such as Joe Elliott of Def Leppard, Axl Rose of Guns N' Roses, Vince Neil of Mötley Crüe, Bret Michaels of Poison, and Sebastian Bach of Skid Row.
