Rivermaya Information
Rivermaya is a band from the Philippines Alternative Rock. Formed in 1994, it is among the various bands leading the 1990s Philippine alternative rock revolution. Original members Mark Escueta and Nathan Azarcon and its longest-serving guitarist Mike Elgar make up Rivermaya right now. Notable former original members include vocalist Bamboo Mañalac and principal songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Rico Blanco, who later founded the band Bamboo and then had a solo career.
Produced by Live Nation Philippines, the iconic 1994–1998 quartet lineup of Mañalac, Blanco, Azarcon, and Escueta staged a spectacular reunion concert at the SMDC Festival Ground in Parañaque on February 17, 2024. Both fans and critics gave the event great marks.
Among the thirty most sold artists in Philippine history is Rivermaya. Though neither the band management nor Elgar personally has made an official announcement yet, on May 8, 2024, Rivermaya changed the display picture of their official Facebook account, showing only Escueta and Azarcon. This sparked rumors from the fans that Elgar most likely left the band.
