Relient K is an American rock band. The current lineup of the group consists of Ethan Luck (bass and backing vocals), Jon Schneck (backing vocals, bells, mandolin, banjo, rhythm, and lead guitar), Dave Douglas (backing vocals and drums), Matt Thiessen (occasional trumpet, rhythm guitar, piano, and lead vocals), and Matt Hoopes (backing vocals and lead guitar). Named after guitarist Hoopes' car, a Plymouth Reliant K car, the band changed the name's spelling to avoid trademark infringement on the Reliant moniker. Christian rock, alternative Christian rock, and contemporary Christian music are all genres in which the band excels.
The band members are prominent in today's Christian music communities, especially the Christian rock and punk scenes. They have shared the stage with nonreligious performers as well. The band's blend of pop punk and alternative music has won over critics and fans. The band's sound has acoustic and piano undertones.
Since forming, Relient K has put out nine full-length albums, seven extended plays, two-holiday albums, and one greatest hits album. In 2004, the band was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Gospel Album, and they ended up winning two Dove Awards. Three studio albums by Relient K have reached the top 15 on the U.S. Billboard 200, proving the band's commercial success.
