Rare Earth Information
Rare Earth is an American soul band from Detroit, Michigan. The band was formerly known as The Sunliners (1960–68). The group is affiliated with Motown's Rare Earth record label. Rare Earth was founded in 1960 as The Sunliners but changed its name later to the current one, in 1968. The current lineup of the band consists of Gil Bridges – saxophone, flute, lead vocals, Randy "Bird" Burghdoff – bass, vocals, Ray Monette – lead guitars, vocals, Floyd Stokes Jr. – drums, lead vocals, and Mike Bruner – keyboards. There is an unexpected long list of former members, as well as the band changes happened throughout its career.
Rare Earth is the first big hit-making act signed by Motown. Their debut album entitled Dream/Answers turned out to be a fail. In 1969, the band contributed music to the film Generation. Later, during 1970–71, the group enjoyed several Top 40 hits, which includes remakes of "(I Know) I'm Losing You" and "Get Ready" by The Temptations. The second one was their biggest hit that peaked on number 4 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Some of the hits by Rare Earth from late 1970 to early 1972 include Hey, Big Brother" (#19), "Born To Wander" (#17), "I Just Want to Celebrate" (#7), and a few more. A few of their notable studio albums are Ecology, One World, Willie Remembers, Ma, Midnight Lady, Back to Earth, A Brand New World, and a few more.
