Propagandhi Information
Propagandhi is a Canadian punk rock band. It was formed in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, in 1986 by guitarist Chris Hannah and drummer Jord Samolesky. The current lineup of the group consists of Sulynn Hago (guitar and vocals), Todd Kowalski (bass and vocals), Jord Samolesky (drums and vocals), and Chris Hannah (vocals and guitar).
While their previous work was influenced by punk rock and skate punk, Propagandhi Records has shifted to a heavier and more technical heavy metal sound in recent years. The band's members support many left-wing and anarchist issues and veganism in their lyrics and activism. They have spoken against human rights violations, sexism, racism, nationalism, homophobia, imperialism, capitalism, and organized religion.
Propagandhi performed with NOFX, a California punk rock band, in 1992 and included a cover of Cheap Trick's "I Want You to Want Me" in their set. NOFX frontman Fat Mike signed them to his own record company Fat Wreck Chords, after being impressed by their performance. Later, the band traveled to Los Angeles to record their debut album, How to Clean Everything, released in 1993. The band spent the following three years traveling and releasing several lesser albums, including the Fat Wreck Chords single How to Clean a Couple of Things, the double 7" Where Quality is Job No. 1, a split 7" with F.Y.P, and a split 10" with I Spy, all of which were released on Recess Records.
Less Talk, More Rock, their second album, was recorded and released by Fat Wreck Chords in 1996. They were known for extensive song explanations and talks during live performances, so the title was sarcastic. With songs like "Nailing Descartes to the Wall/(Liquid) Meat Is Still Murder," "Apparently, I'm a 'P.C. Fascist' (Because I Care About Both Human and Non-Human Animals)," and "... And We Thought Nation-States Were a Bad Idea," the album was more politicized than its predecessor.
