The Polyphonic Spree is an American choral rock band based in Dallas, Texas, formed by Tim DeLaughter in 2000. The current lineup of the group includes Tim DeLaughter (lead vocals, guitar, and piano), Bach Norwood (piano, backing vocals, and keyboards), Jason Garner (drums), Mark Pirro (bass), Jenny Kirtland (backing vocals), Jessica Jordan (backing vocals), Kristin Hardin (backing vocals), Elizabeth Evans (backing vocals), Neil Smith (backing vocals), Julie Doyle (backing vocals), Natalie Young (backing vocals), Constance Dolph (backing vocals), and Sean Redman.
The band’s sound relies on various vocals and instrumentals such as EWI, electronic keyboards, drums, bass, guitars, piano, percussion, cello, viola, violin, trombone, French horn, trumpet, flute, and choir.
The Polyphonic Spree released its debut studio album entitled “The Beginning Stages of….” on May 2, 2002. The same year, they opened for The Divine Comedy at the Royal Festival Hall. The band was dropped by their record label, 679 Recordings, in early 2003. The very next year, in 2004, Polyphonic Spree released its second album on Hollywood Records entitled, Together We’re Heavy. The album was released in Japan on June 30, Europe on July 12, and North America on July 13, 2004.
Other studio albums by the Polyphonic include The Fragile Army (June 19, 2007), Holidaydream: Sounds of the Holidays, Vol. One (October 23, 2012), Yes, It’s True (August 6, 2013), and Psychphonic (2014). Their notable EPs are Soldier Girl (2002), Light & Day (2003), Wait EP (2006), and We Hope it Finds You Well (2020).
