PJ Harvey Information
Polly Jean Harvey MBE (October 9, 1969) is a British singer and songwriter who was born in Bridport, Dorset. She has a diverse instrument repertoire but is most noted for her vocals and guitar work.
In 1988, Harvey launched her career as a singer, guitarist, and saxophonist with the local band Automatic Dlamini. John Parish, the lead singer of the band, became her lifelong partner. She started performing under the name PJ Harvey in 1991 when she created an eponymous trio with her husband. After breaking up, the trio produced the critically praised albums Dry (1992) and Rid of Me (1993). Harvey then resumed his career as a solo artist.
"Horse" and "Bobby Don't Steal" are two of Harvey's songs that were written for the 2012 Mark Cousins film What is This Film Called Love? (which also incorporates "To Bring You My Love"). Season 2 of Peaky Blinders, which premiered in 2014, contained several of Harvey's songs.
Following the tragic death of singer-songwriter Mark Linkous in 2010, Harvey and Parish paid homage to him with the publication of a song titled "Sorry For Your Loss" in March of 2018. Channel 4's 2019 miniseries The Virtues, written by Shane Meadows, included music by Harvey.
The 2022 Apple TV+ series Bad Sisters, which starred Sharon Horgan, Dave Finkel, and Brett Baer, had music created by Harvey. Adapted from Charles Dickens's "Our Mutual Friend," London Tide, directed by Ian Rickson, will reintroduce Harvey's music to the stage in 2024. Ben Power adapted London Tide, while PJ Harvey and Ben Power composed the original music.
