Peter Harper Information
Peter M. Harper (1974) is an American musician, sculptor, and academic. He is the youngest child of multi-instrumentalist, Ellen Harper (née Chase). Harper’s mother used to sing in a band on Friday and Saturday nights. While Harper did not receive any formal art instruction at school, he hung out in his family’s music store in the afternoons. This is where Harper was exposed to all kinds of instruments, musicians, and music. He learned instrument repair from this and began crafting small ceramic sculptures.
Peter M. Harper completed his B.A. from Pitzer College in Claremont in 1996 and went on to earn an M.A. in art at New York University. Until his 30s, Harper worked as a lecturer in art and as a surfer in the Surfrider Foundation. He circled back to music in his mid-30s after falling in love with the ukulele, and then the tenor guitar. Harper is best known for his vocals and his performance on the tenor guitar.
Along with teaching and sculpture, Harper released his self-titled debut album in 2013. In May 2016, he made a solo tour of France and played 17 concerts in various intimate venues. Break the Cycle was the second album by Harper that came out in 2017. The album was released via a studio run by Sheldon Gomberg. Harper made a second European tour in 2017, organized in conjunction with the Surfrider Foundation Europe.
