Perry Farrell Information
Perry Farrell (March 29, 1959) is an American musician, singer, and songwriter. He was born in Queens, New York. Farrell's parents, a jeweler and an artist, both committed suicide when he was three years old; this tragedy was referenced in Jane's Addiction songs "Then She Did" and "Twisted Tales."
The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, Sly, the Family Stone, and James Brown significantly influenced his musical tastes. Later, artists such as David Bowie, Iggy Pop, and Lou Reed also served as inspirations. Farrell left his home in New Jersey after high school and went to California in the early 1980s to pursue a life as a professional surfer. There he worked construction and waited tables to support his car-based lifestyle. Yobel (born 1998) is his son with ex-girlfriend Christine Cagle. Etty Lau Farrell is a skilled dancer and vocalist who has been a part of every Jane's Addiction show since the Relapse tour in 1997. Farrell married her in 2002. Both of the couple's sons are their own.
Later, he became the vocalist for the Los Angeles post-punk band Psi Com and performed with other local acts like X, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fishbone, Oingo Boingo, and the Minutemen. Around 1985, Psi Com disbanded, and Farrell and Eric Avery became friends through common acquaintances. In the beginning, Jane's Addiction was just the two jamming together. During this time, Bernstein used the pen name Perry Farrell, a pun on the word "peripheral," to publish his work.
