Paul Gilbert Information
Paul Gilbert (November 6, 1966) is an American heavy metal and hard rock guitarist. He was born in Carbondale, Illinois. In addition to being a founding member of Mr. Big, he also spent time with the band Racer X, with whom he recorded multiple albums. Since beginning a solo career in 1996, Gilbert has released many solo albums and made numerous guest appearances on other artists' albums. GuitarOne magazine named Gilbert the number four "Top 10 Greatest Guitar Shredders of All Time" in 2007.
In November 2003, Gilbert reunited with Portnoy, LaRue, and Gildenlöw to form a Led Zeppelin tribute band, Hammer of the Gods. Gilbert's solo albums, Burning Organ, Paul the Young Dude/The Best of Paul Gilbert, and Gilbert Hotel, were all released in the same year as his Japan tour. Joining Gilbert on the trek were Linus of Hollywood, TJ Helmerich, and Scot Coogan. He joined the Rush tribute band Cygnus and the Sea Monsters with Portnoy, Sean Malone, and Jason McMaster in September 2005.
Gilbert's album Silence Followed by a Deafening Roar came out on January 23, 2008. On March 31, 2008, the album was released in Europe, and on April 8, 2008, it was released in the United States—the second instrumental album by Gilbert. Gilbert and singer Freddie Nelson released the United States album on October 22, 2008. The group's sound has been compared to that of Queen and Mr. Big.
