Overkill is an American thrash metal band that was founded in 1980 in New Jersey. The current members included in the group are Dave Linsk on lead guitar, Jason Bittner on drums, Derek Tailer on rhythm guitar, D. D. Verni on bass and vocals, and Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth as a lead vocalist. Overkill is often called "the Motörhead of thrash metal" is one of the most successful East Coast thrash metal bands. "Chaly," a skeletal bat with horns, a skull-like face, greeny eyes, and bony wings, is the notable mascot of the band.

Overkill began its career by writing original songs such as "Grave Robbers" (later renamed "Raise the Dead"), "Unleash the Beast (Within)," and "Overkill." Some other songs by the band are "Death Rider" (1981) and "Rotten to the Core" (1982). Power in Black is a demo by Overkill that came-up with two compilations appearances; "Feel the Fire," on New York Metal '84, and "Death Rider" on volume V of Metal Blade Records' Metal Massacre series.

Overkill is heavily influenced by genres including heavy metal, hard rock, classic rock, progressive rock, as well as acts like; Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, The Who, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Kiss, Alice Cooper, Queen, Rainbow, Manowar, Wishbone Ash, and countless more.
