Of Montreal is an American indie pop band. The current lineup of the group consists of Nicholas Dobbratz (keys, percussion, bass, and guitar), Davey Pierce (bass), Jojo Glidewell (keys), Clayton Rychlik (drums, keys, bass, and guitar), and Kevin Barnes (singer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter). The band was founded in 1996 by Kevin Barnes. It was named after a romance between Barnes and a woman “of Montreal .” Of Montreal’s musical style has evolved and drawn inspiration from 1960s psychedelic pop acts.
Of Montreal released its debut album entitled Cherry Peel in 1997. The band released an EP entitled The Bird Who Ate the Rabbit’s Flower the same year. The EP included five tracks. In 1998, Of Montreal released its second studio album, The Bedside Drama: A Petite Tragedy. In 1998, the band also started recording a concept album with their third full-length entitled, The Gay Parade. After releasing this album, Of Montreal signed a record deal with Kindercore Records. In 2001, the band came up with another concept album, Coquelicot Asleep in the Poppies: A Variety of Whimsical Verse.
Other notable studio albums released by Of Montreal include Aldhils Arboretum (2002), Satanic Panic in the Attic (2004), The Sunlandic Twins (2005), Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? (2007), Skeletal Lamping (2008), False Priest (2010), Paralytic Stalks (2012), Lousy With Sylvianbriar (2013), Aureate Gloom (2015), and several others.
