Nightwish Information
Nightwish is a symphonic metal band that originated from Kitee. The band’s current lineup is Toumas Holopainen (keyboards, piano, and synthesizers), Emppu Vuorinen (guitars and bass), Marco Hietala (bass, male vocals, and acoustic guitar), Troy Donockley (uilleann pipes, tin whistle, bodhran, bouzouki, guitars, and low whistle), Floor Jansen (lead vocals), and Kai Hahto (drums).
In April 1997, Nightwish entered the studio and recorded seven songs for their second demo entitled “Angels Fall First.” In November of the same year, the group released its full-length album. The album reached number 31 on the Finnish album charts, and the single entitled “The Carpenter” became number 3 on the Finnish singles chart.
On December 31, 1997, Nightwish made its live debut album in its hometown Kitee, at the Huvikeskus. In August 1998, the band entered the studio as a five-piece group to record its next album for Spinefarm Records. Nightwish released its second full-length album entitled “Oceanborn” in Finland on October 7, 1998, after adopting a more progressive and technical sound than Angels Fall First.
Nightwish embarked on its first tour named “The First Tour of the Angels.” They have toured various times since their formation. Some of the other notable albums that the group released so far include Wishmaster (2000), Century Child (2002), Once (2004), Dark Passion Play (2007), Imaginaerum (2011), Endless Forms Most Beautiful (2015), and Human :II: Nature (2020).
