Nick Mason Information
Nicholas Berkeley Mason (January 27, 1944) is an English drummer. He is best known as the co-founder of the progressive rock band Pink Floyd. He was born in Birmingham, England. While attending the University of Westminster to study architecture, he and future Pink Floyd members Roger Waters, Bob Klose, and Richard Wright created the band Sigma 6 in 1964.
Waters and Mason settled into a London flat owned by Mike Leonard, a part-time instructor at the Hornsey College of Art and the Regent Street Polytechnic, in September 1963. After the 1964–65 school year, Mason left the building. The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Pink Floyd's first album, came out that same year (1967). Since then, Mason has been on every Pink Floyd album.
Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets was Mason's new band that he started in 2018 to play Pink Floyd's psychedelic tunes. Mason is joined by Spandau Ballet's Gary Kemp on vocals and guitar, Orb's Dom Beken on keyboards, and Pink Floyd bassist Guy Pratt. During the ceremony's presentation, Mason was awarded an honorary degree from the University of Westminster's School of Architecture and Built Environment on November 26, 2012.
