Nektar Information
Nektar is a rock band from England with roots in Germany. The current lineup of the group for the United States consists of Kendall Scott (keyboards), Randy Dembo (bass, bass pedals, backing vocals), Ryche Chlanda (guitars, vocals), Mick Brockett (special effects), Derek "Mo" Moore (bass, keyboards, vocals, and lyrics), and Ron Howden (drums, percussion, backing vocals). The current lineup for Germany consists of Klaus Henatsch (keyboards, backing vocals), Alexander Hoffmeister (vocals, guitars), Norbert "Panza" Lehmann (drums, backing vocals), and Heike Nolden (bass, violin, backing vocals).
In 1969, Nektar was founded in Hamburg, West Germany. Journey to the Centre of the Eye (1971), the band's debut album, uniquely included a single song that lasted over 40 minutes. The last 100 seconds of the first side were repeated at the start of the second side to maintain continuity.
Remember the Future (1973), Nektar's debut album in the United States, catapulted the band into prominence for a brief while. A concept album that revisits the topic of extraterrestrials offering human enlightenment, as shown in Journey to the Centre of the Eye, but with a blind boy as the protagonist. It had a significantly more lyrical tone than prior albums and debuted in the Top 20 album charts. Down to Earth (1974), the follow-up was another concept album.
Other studio albums released by Nektar include Recycled (1975), Magic Is a Child (1977), Man in the Moon (1980), The Prodigal Son (2001), Evolution (2004), Book of Days (2008), A Spoonful of Time (2012), Time Machine (2013), Megalmania (2018), and The Other Side (2020).
