Mykal Kilgore is an American actor and R&B artist. He was born and grew up in Orlando, Florida. He soon moved to Nashville, Tennessee as a singer and songwriter after completing his graduation from Florida State University. Kilgore has been mentored by many big names, such as Billy Porter on the top. His credits include Hair, The Wiz Live, and Motown: The Music. Kilgore identifies as queer.
On September 6, 2019, Kilgore released his debut album entitled, A Man Born Black. The album reached number two on the iTunes R&B charts and charted on five different Billboard charts. Kilgore also received an NAACP Image Award nomination in 2020 for Outstanding New Artist. He has also received SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Award nomination for New Artist of the Year.
Kilgore’s lead single from A Man Born Black entitled “Let Me Go” received a Best Traditional R&B Performance nomination for the 2021 Grammy Awards. After receiving the Grammy nomination, Kilgore released a single entitled “The Man in the Barbershop” on September 10, 2021. He was invited to perform at the 2021 Met Gala in New York City on September 13. Kilgore’s other theatrical credits include Dear Evan Hansen (2016), Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert (2018), Songs for a New World (2018), and Into the Woods (2019).
