Minus the Bear created a singular place in the indie and math rock scene with their complex guitar work and creative soundscapes. Arriving on the scene with Highly Refined Pirates (2002), the band quickly developed a devoted fanbase. Menos el Oso (2005) and Planet of Ice (2007) confirmed their standing for technical mastery and creative sensibility.
The band formally broke up in 2018, but their influence has only been stronger since their farewell tour, and the last album, Fair Enough, is a worthy send-off. Reissues of Minus the Bear's classic albums and a growing respect from a new generation of listeners have helped the band experience a rebirth in appeal in the past year.
