Michael Franti (April 21, 1966) is a multi-talented American artist born in Oakland, California. He is known for his work as a rapper, activist, poet, and musician. He is notable for his involvement in various musical projects, most of which have a social or political focus, such as the Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy and the Beatnigs. Michael Franti & Spearhead, a band that fuses hip hop with a range of other styles, is created and led vocally by him.
The Beatnigs, an industrial punk/spoken word band, was Franti's musical debut in 1986. His passion for music led him to form a band while he was a student at the University of San Francisco, where he lived above KUSF. All People was Franti's 2013 album release. On July 30, 2013, the album's lead track, "I'm Alive (Life Sounds Like)," was released; it later appeared in the trailers for Rayman Legends and The Sims 4.
Stay Human, Vol. II, Michael Franti's next album, was released in June 2018 and serves as the score for his upcoming documentary, which was revealed in March 2018. With an Instagram post in July, Michael Franti announced the album's postponement until fall 2018. Released on October 12, "Just to Say I Love You" was the lead single from January 25, 2019, the album Stay Human, Vol. II.
For 2020, Franti dropped the single "Work Hard and Be Nice." Franti's "Follow Your Heart" album single "Good Day for a Good Day" peaked at No. 25 on the AAA charts in 2022. The score for the Woody Harrelson picture Champions was composed by Michael Franti.
