Megalodon Information
Megalodon is a South African metal band formed in 2010. The current lineup of the band includes Louis Henn (guitars), Andrew Lambert (guitars), Eren Nuri Grobbelaar (bass), Dane Canterbury (drums), and Thomas Theron (vocals). Megalodon was actually created by two long-term friends Nuri Grobbelaar and Ruan Jordaan. After discussing the project for many years it finally came together. Their musical influences are stated to be Giant Pre-historic Sharks, The Omniverse, Pulsars, Gravitons, and Maganatars.
2011 was an amazing year for Megalodon in which the group achieved multiple victories. They released their initial singles including Umbilical Embroidery and Cessation, both of which helped the band pave the way for their future.
After the singles, the group started receiving high praise in the metal community. The victory helped the band to gain a small number of true and loyal fans. The band even signed a record deal with Burning Tone Records and received the attention of Metal4Africa.
Megalodon released its debut album entitled “Darkness in Sonance” and got incredible attention through the social media and local metal blogs. After the release, the band was chosen by MK Ondergrond to participate in the first-ever Wacken Metal Battle South Africa. Between 2015 and 2016, Megalodon primarily focused on creating their second full-length album. Additionally, the band was a finalist in 2013 and winner in 2017 in the Wacken Metal Battle South Africa.
