Matt Nakoa is an American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist from a small goat farm in New York State. At a young age, he was trained to be a concert pianist and later attended Berklee College of Music as a vocalist on a scholarship. During his time in college, Matt Nakoa developed his dramatic songwriting style while being a part of an alt-rock band named The Fens. Soon he moved to Manhattan and started to perform at all-night piano bars.
Matt Nakoa released his first solo album in 2012, and the next in 2014, entitled Light in the Dark and A Dozen Other Loves, respectively. These albums garnered multiple songwriting awards in which included a win at Kerrville Folk Festival's New Folk Competition. Nakoa is a modern troubadour who makes his house on the highways and concert stages of America.
Matt Nakoa regularly appears with folk music icon Tom Rush. According to the Boston Globe, Nakoa is an artist who knows how to drop jaws between his piano and heartfelt originals on guitar. Casting Shadows is the latest album by Nakoa, released in 2019. The album is a spellbinding blend of pop, classical, and soul.
