Matt Anderson Information
Matt Anderson is a Canadian blues singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He was born in Perth-Andover, New Brunswick. With his band, Andersen performed over 200 shows in 2009, including his fourth tour of the United Kingdom. He recorded a new album (Piggyback) with harmonica player Mike Stevens. He became Male Solo Artist of the Year and Blues Recording of the Year by the East Coast Music Association (ECMA) in 2009. From 2009 to 2011, he appeared at multiple Vinyl Cafe performances across Canada hosted by Stuart McLean.
In its 26-year history, the Memphis, Tennessee, International Blues Challenge has never had a Canadian winner. On January 25, 2010, Andersen became the first Canadian to take home the top prize for a duo/individual, besting competitors from 11 countries and five continents. His reward from the Fredericton, Canada-based Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival includes performances at festivals in the United States, France, and Italy, as well as a spot on one of the Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruises and a cash prize. In addition, he was given two more awards in January 2011: "Entertainer of the Year" and "Acoustic Act of the Year" at the Maple Blues Awards.
He received nominations for four ECMAs in 2011 (Male Solo Recording, Blues Recording, Fan's Choice Entertainer of the Year, and DVD of the Year). He took home the Konica Minolta Male Solo Recording of the Year and the Blues Recording of the Year at the 2011 ECMAs for his album Piggyback.
