Joe Bonamassa (May 8, 1977) is an American blues rock singer, songwriter, and guitarist born in New Hartford, New York. At the urging of his music-loving father, he picked up the guitar when he was four. Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck's British blues rock albums strongly influenced him. Bonamassa was eleven when he began studying under American guitar great Danny Gatton. 1989, Bonamassa served as B.B. King's opening act at around twenty performances.
In addition to his solo work, Bonamassa is the guitarist and backup singer for the hard rock band Black Country Communion. The band dropped BCCIV, their fourth studio album, in September 2017. Bonamassa was a participant in To Tell the Truth in August of 2021. Two tracks on Alan Parsons' From The New World album (2022) featured Bonamassa on lead guitar.
According to a 2020 online interview, Bonamassa's go-to axe is a 1951 Fender Telecaster he calls "The Bludgeon, " which sports a custom humbucking pickup in the neck). Fender and Bonamassa have introduced a limited edition replica of Greg Fessler's "The Bludgeon" from the Custom Shop that year.
