Mark Farner Information
Mark Frederick Farner is an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter born in Flint, Michigan. Farner started his musical career by performing with Terry Knight and The Pack. Grand Funk Railroad's principal guitarist and singer, Farner, also wrote most of their songs. The 1970 epic "I'm Your Captain" is his best-known work. The final of the band's four tracks that reached the top 5 on the Billboard 100, "Bad Time," was written by him and was a 1975 hit single.
Farner released a self-titled debut solo album in 1977 and his second, No Frills, in 1978, following the original breakup of Grand Funk in 1976. Dennis Bellinger joined Farner and Don Brewer to form a new Grand Funk lineup in 1981, and the group made two albums.
His third Frontline album, Some Wonderful, was released in 1991 and contained a reworked Jesus rendition of the corresponding Grand Funk song. In the late 1980s, Farner underwent a spiritual conversion and saw success with the John Beland song "Isn't it Amazing," which garnered him a nomination for a Dove Award and peaked at No. 2 on the Contemporary Christian music charts.
