Loverboy Information
Loverboy is a Canadian rock band that was formed in Calgary, Alberta in 1979. The current lineup of the band consists of Paul Dean (backing vocals and guitar), Matt Frenette (drums), Doug Johnson (backing vocals and keyboards), Mike Reno (lead vocals), and Ken “Spider” Sinnaeve (bass guitar and backing vocals). The band, when formed, got rejected by all the major record labels in the United States. On March 20, 1980, Loverboy eventually signed its first record deal with Columbia Records of Canada.
Loverboy stepped into the studio with producer Bruce Fairbairn and engineer Bob Rock when they were about to record their self-titled debut album. The record became hit in the summer, and it had sold over one million records in Canada alone; that was a huge success for the band. In November 1980, the album made its American debut and sold two million copies alone in the United States. That same year, Loverboy went on tour and performed with other bands such as Def Leppard, Kansas, ZZ Top, and Cheap Trick. The debut single by the band entitled “Turn Me Loose” peaked at number 7 on the Canadian charts and number 35 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
In October 1981, Loverboy released its follow-up album, “Get Lucky.” The album included hit tracks such as “Lucky Ones,” “When It’s Over,” and “Working for the Weekend.” Other albums by the Loverboy include Keep It Up (1983), Lovin’ Every Minute of It (1985), Wildside (1987), Six (1997), Just Getting Started (2007), Rock ‘n’ Roll Revival (2012), and Unfinished Business (2014).
