Loudness Information
Loudness is a Japanese heavy metal band that was formed in 1981 by the guitarist Akira Takasaki along with the drummer Munetaka Higuchi. The band is also known as the first Japanese band that signed a major record deal with a label in the United States. The current lineup of the band consists of Akira Takasaki (backing vocals and guitars), Masayoshi Yamashita (backing vocals and bass), Minoru Niihara (lead vocals), and Masayuki Suzuki (drums).
Loudness signed its first record deal with Nippon Columbia and recorded their debut album “The Birthday Eve.” The album was in Japanese-language. The band’s second album was Devil Soldier, which they released in 1982. In 1983, since the band had already recorded their third studio album entitled “The Law of Devil’s Land,” Loudness embarked their first United States tour and then toured in Europe. To record their fourth album “Disillusion,” the band moved to Europe. They also performed multiple concerts there.
Loudness signed their international record deal with Atco Records. Their fifth album, “Thunder in the East,” was recorded in the United States, and it went highly successful. The album peaked at number 74 on the Billboard album chart. On July 25, 1986, the band released another hit album, “Lightning Strikes,” which was produced by Max Norman and charted at number 64. This album earned worldwide attraction to the Loudness.
Some of their other notable albums are Shadows of War (1986), Hurricane Eyes (1987), Heavy Metal Hippies (1994), Spiritual Canoe (2001), Terror (2004), The Everlasting (2009), The Sun Will Rise Again (2014), and a few others.
