Lou Ann Barton Information
Lou Ann Barton and W. C. Clark formed the W. C. Clark Blues Revue in 1975. Barton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and W. C. Clark formed a new Austin blues band called Triple Threat Revue in late September 1977. Once Clark left in May 1978, the band rebranded as Double Trouble, and Barton stayed on until November 1979. In the early 1980s, she spent a stint with the jump blues band Roomful of Blues. Jerry Wexler, a record producer, saw her perform and signed her on the spot.
In 1982, she worked with Jerry Wexler and Glenn Frey to create the critically acclaimed album Old Enough for Asylum Records. Her time with Asylum Records was cut short despite critics praising her album Old Enough. In 1986, Spindletop Records published Forbidden Tones, an EP by Barton intended to serve as the follow-up to her critically acclaimed album Asylum. It could have been more successful in attracting a large audience.
Read My Lips, released in 1989 on Antone's Records out of Austin, was a return to her blues roots, featuring covers of songs originally recorded by Slim Harpo, Hank Ballard, and Wanda Jackson. Dreams Come True (1990) included Barton's collaboration with vocalists Marcia Ball and Angela Strehli.
