Local Natives Information
Local Natives is an American indie rock band that is based in Silver Lake, Los Angeles. The current lineup of the group consists of Taylor Rice (vocals and guitar), Kelcey Ayer (vocals, keyboards, percussion, and guitar), Ryan Hahn (guitar, keyboards, and vocals), Matt Frazier (drums), and Nik Ewing (bass, keyboards, and vocals). The group was formed in Orange County, where all of the members came together. All members moved to a house in Silver Lake, where they started to work on their debut album.
On November 2, 2009, Local Natives released their debut album entitled Gorilla Manor. The album was named after the house they shared in Orange County. Most of the album was written in that house; they wanted to connect their emotions by giving the house’s name to the album. The album was self-funded and recorded by Raymond Richards in his Red Rockets Glare Studio in West Los Angeles.
Local Natives soon began to attract the attention of the music press after they played consecutively nine shows at the 2009 SXSW festival that took place in Austin, Texas. The group embarked on its Europe tour, where they served as an opening act for Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. The group made its debut in Australia at St Jerome’s Laneway Festival. Other studio albums released by Local Natives so far include Hummingbird (January 29, 2013), Sunlit Youth (September 9, 2016), and Violet Street (April 26, 2019). The only EP released so far is Sour Lemon (October 23, 2020).
