Lisa Fischer (December 1, 1958) is an American songwriter and vocalist from New York, New York. Fischer had a difficult childhood as her father left when she was 14, and her mother died when she was 17. She attended The High School of Music & Art in Manhattan and stated that she was highly influenced by Marvin Gaye, Freda Payne, and Melba Moore during her early childhood.
The black LGBT community supported Lisa Fischer before she launched her solo mainstream career. She planned to have a stage name "Xena" and released the track "On The Upside" in 1983, under her stage name. During her initial career, Fischer performed with other artists by providing backing vocals. She maintained her career as a session singer and accompanied The Rolling Stones on their tour in 1989.
Fischer faced massive success after releasing "How Can I Ease the Pain" from her album So Intense in 1991, which hit number one on the R&B charts and won a Grammy. Some of her other notable singles include "Glad to be Alive," "How Can I Ease the Pain," "Colors of Love," "Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time)," "24 Hour Woman," and "Into My Life (You Brought the Sunshine)." She made her theatre debut in 1996 from the off-Broadway play Born to Sing!
Fischer performed many hit tours for various artists as a backing vocalist such as The Night I Fell in Love Tour, Give Me the Reason Tour (Luther Vandross), Steel Wheels/Urban Jungle Tour, Voodoo Lounge Tour, Bridges to Babylon Tour, No Security Tour, and A Bigger Bang Tour (The Rolling Stones).
