Larry Kirwan Information
Larry 'Tim' Kirwan (1954) is an expatriate Irish writer and musician, from Wexford, Ireland. His music genre is defined to be punk. He is most recognized as the lead singer for Black 47, before joining, Kirwan and fellow Wexfordian Pierce Turner were working as the house band in Malachy McCourt's Bells of Hell, situated in Greenwich Village. The band was one of the two unlucky bands that were banned from CBGB's for being "too demonic." Later, the two led the new band Major Thinkers. The band released the song Avenue B (is the place to be) that turned out to be a radio hit. The group also recorded an album entitled Terrible Beauty, but it was never released. Soon after performing in Irving Plaza on St. Patrick's Day, the group disbanded in 1985.
Kirwan is also known for writing and producing 11 plays and musicals that mostly deal with Irish history and politics. Some of his productions and writings have been performed in the United States and Europe. The most popular ones are Liverpool Fantasy, Days of Rage, Blood and Night in the Garden, and Mister Parnell. They were published in his book, entitled Mad Angels.
Some of the other publications by Kirwan are Livin' In America (2004), The Songs and Stories of Black 47, and Liverpool Fantasy (2003).
