Kurt Vile Information
Kurt Samuel Vile is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer from Lansdowne, Pennsylvania. His first step towards the music industry began when he was 14-years-old after getting a banjo from his father.
Though he had wished it was a guitar instead, and actually played it as one would play the guitar. He soon began writing songs with the banjo. At the age of 17, he created his first mass-produced taped under the Drag City record label.
In 2003, he moved to Philadelphia and started working with Adam Granduciel with whom he formed an indie rock band The War on Drugs in 2005. The duo released their debut album, Wagonwheel Blue in 2008. Then embarked on a tour to support the album’s release.
In the same year, Kurt released his debut solo album, Constant Hitman, under Gulcher Records. After this release, he decided to go at it alone and left The War on Drugs band. In April 2009, the record label Mexican Summer released God Is Saying This To You…, which was a collection of home recordings Kurt had done since 2003. Around the same time of this release, Kurt had recorded another studio album, Childish Prodigy.
He then embarked on searching for record labels to release the album, and finally settled on Matador Records. In 2011 he released his fourth studio album, Smoke Ring for My Halo. The album climbed the charts to pick at No.154 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. In 2013, the album was ranked No.475 in the NME’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
