Kale Victoria “KT” Tunstall is a Scottish singer, songwriter, and musician born in Edinburgh, Scotland. Tunstall first garnered attention in 2004 with a live solo performance of the song “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” on the TV show "Later...with Jools Holland." Soon she released her debut album entitled “Eye to the Telescope.” Childhood experiences she had at her father’s physics laboratory at the University of St Andrews inspired the album's name. The album was released in 2004, and it helped Tunstall launch her music career.
Tunstall received the nomination for the Mercury Prize in 2005 for her album, Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 2007, BRIT Award for Best British Live Act, and BRIT Award for Best Breakthrough Act in 2006. Tunstall even won the BRIT Award for European Border Breakers Award and Best British Female Artist in 2006. Her song “Suddenly I See” won the Ivor Novello Award in 2006 for the Best Song. Throughout her twenties, Tunstall played in many indie music bands including Elia Drew.
Tunstall has worked with different record labels throughout her career such as Relentless Records, Blue Note/Universal Records, Carline Records/Sont/ATV, and Music Publishing. She has released a few notable albums so far, including Drastic Fantastic (2007), Tiger Suit (2010), Invisible Empire II Crescent Moon (2013), KIN (2016), and WAX (2018).
