Killswitch Engage Information
American metalcore band Killswitch Engage was formed in 1999, in Westfield, Massachusetts. The current members of the band are Joel Stroetzel (rhythm guitar, backing vocals, lead guitar), Jesse Leach (lead vocals), Adam Dutkiewicz (lead guitar, backing vocals, drums, backing vocals), Mike D'Antonio (bass), and Justin Foley (drums). The band's name is derived from an episode of The X-Files television series entitled "Kill Switch." To date, the band has released two live performance albums and eight studio albums.
Killswitch Engage recorded a demo in 1999, containing four songs, including "Soilborne" and three more. This demo was released in November 1999 in the band’s first show, opening for melodic death metal act In Flames. That same year, the band released their self-titled debut album. Their second album, “Alive or Just Breathing,” was released in 2002 and reached no.37 on the Top Heatseekers chart.
On May 11, 2004, Killswitch Engaged released their third album “The End of Heartache,” which reached no.39 on the Australian Albums Chart and no.21 on the Billboard 200 with 38,000 sales in its first week. This album was certified gold by AIAA. Other famous albums by the band are As Daylight Dies (2006), Disarm the Descent (2013), Incarnate (2016), and Atonement (2019).
In August 2006, Killswitch Engage played at the Reading and Leeds Festivals. The band headlined No Fear Tour in early 2007. They played on the Road Rage tour in Europe in 2002 with Five Pointe O and 36 Crazyfists. In July 2015, Killswitch took part in a summer tour, opening up for Rising Against with support from let live.
Over the years, the Killswitch Engage band has been awarded for various categories of Grammy and Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards, including Best International Band, Best Live Band, and Outstanding Metal/Hardcore Band of the Year. The band has also got nominated for several categories such as Album of the Year (As Daylight Dies), National Male Vocalist of the Year (Howard Jones), Metal Album of the Year (Disarm the Descent), Metal Song of the Year (In Due Time), and Metal Band of the Year.
