Jonathan Tyler & The Northern Lights Information
Jonathan Tyler & the Northern Lights is an American rock band that is based in Dallas, Texas. The group’s current lineup consists of Jonathan Tyler, Brandon Pinckard, Jordan Cain, Emotion Brown, and Chase McGillis. The ensemble was formed in January 2007 when they immediately went into the studio with Chris Bell, a local producer, to record the band’s first-ever independent record named Hot Trottin’. The group played at almost every venue in Deep Ellum and soon began to venture outside of Dallas into Austin, Houston, and other surrounding cities to spread their music.
Jonathan Tyler and the Northern Lights began supporting major national acts by 2008. This includes Cross Canadian Ragweed, Heart, Chicago, Kool & the Gang, The Black Crowes, Deep Purple, Leon Russell, and Erykah Badu. An A&R representative from Atlantic Records discovered the band at SXSW 2008 and offered them the record contract. The band eventually signed the record deal with F-Stop Music/Atlantic Records. In 2008, the group was awarded the Dallas Observer Music Awards for “Best Blues Act.”
JTNL continued touring extensively in 2009, most notably with AC/DC, O.A.R., Kid Rock, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. They have played at the SXSW, Wakarusa, Summerfest, Forecastle Festival, and the Austin City Limits Music Festival. The band released its second studio album, Pardon Me, on April 27, 2010. The same year, JTNL was named “Top Artist of 2010” by Pegasus News.
