Jon Butcher (May 5, 1955) is an American rock, freelance multimedia producer, guitarist, and blues songwriter based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Butcher finished his secondary education at Conestoga High School, and after leaving high school, he attended Grahm Junior College in Boston, Massachusetts, to study Broadcast Journalism. Many people compare Jon Butcher with Jimi Hendrix in the early days of his career though his musical influences were said to be Taj Mahal, Bob Dylan, Phil Lynott, John Lennon, and Richie Havens.
Butcher toured the Northeast United States during the middle of the 1970s with Johanna Wild, a Boston-based band. The group received early success due to their self-promotion, self-management, and self-marketing. Johanna Wild helped Jon Butcher to accumulate quick media attention. He was featured on radio media, cable TV networks such as MTV, and also influential radio stations in Boston. He also created the Jon Butcher Axis group in late 1979, which consisted of Derek Blevins (drummer), Chris Martin (bass), and Sandy Higgins (guitar). Jon Butcher Axis successfully performed throughout New England. Jon Butcher Axis was also invited to tour with the world-famous Boston based K. Geils Band.
Butcher has released several notable albums including Satre at the Sun (1984), Along the Axis (1985), Wishes (1987), Pictures from the Front (1989), Positively the Blues (1995), Electric Factory (1996), The Best of Jon Butcher: Dreamers Would Ride (1998), and a few more.
