Johnny Reid Information
John Kirkland Reid (August 21, 1973) is a Scottish-Canadian country music performer. Reid arrived in Canada in July 1989 from Scotland, U.K., when sixteen. Reid's diesel technician father wanted to provide his son and sibling chances not found in Scotland. 1992 was his graduation year at Turner Fenton Secondary School in Brampton, Ontario. Reid continued to Bishop's University in Lennoxville, Quebec, where he met his wife (and excelled on the varsity football team).
Reid and his family live in Nashville, Tennessee, where he relocated to produce country music. Kicking Stones was nominated for the 2008 Juno Award for Country Recording of the Year. Reid received male artist of the year awards at the 2008 and 2009 CCMA Awards. The Queen and Prince Philip also attended his performance on Parliament Hill on July 1, 2010, Canada Day.
Reid stated in 2022 that his new musical, co-written with Canadian writer Matt Murray, would open Theatre Aquarius in Hamilton, Ontario, in 2023. The performance had a limited run at The Savoy Theatre in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, in autumn 2023 and headlined The Charlottetown Festival in summer 2023.
