Brooklyn, New York-born singer, songwriter, producer, and engineer Johnny Burgos' unique take on the future of soul is characterized by an honest, uncompromising sound that draws strength from adversity and celebrates resilience. Johnny's infatuation with the rhythmic rhythms of salsa and soul music, inspired largely by his uncle, the world-class percussionist Andre Martinez, expressed itself in a dedicated enthusiasm for Hip Hop via a sample-based production technique using an Akai MPC 2000.
Johnny's music is rooted in R&B and draws inspiration from artists like Michael Jackson, OutKast, J Dilla, Lauryn Hill, and D'Angelo. It also incorporates Hip Hop, Funk, Pop, Salsa, and Reggae elements. Johnny apprenticed under Grammy-winning engineers and producers, including Fabrice Dupont, Ryan West, Damon Whittemore, Daniel Sanint, and Ben Lindell, while working out of Flux Studios in New York City's East Village to hone his ears and abilities.
Q-Tip, Wu-Tang Clan, Frank Dukes, 50 Cent, Alicia Keys, Swizz Beats, and many more have all collaborated with him since then. Johnny has worked with DJ Skizz and Marco Polo, Frans Mernick, Liza Colby (The Gold Setting), Spencer Ludwig, Travis Mendes, and others throughout his career as an artist and producer. He has also led the band Bridge City Hustle on a national tour.
