John Antonopoulos (November 14, 1952) is an American songwriter, musician, and guitarist. He was born in Maiden, Massachusetts, and grew up in the Boston area. Professionally known as Johnny A., during his time in the Boston area, Johny’s interest in music continuously increased. Eventually, at the age of six, Johnny started playing drums. At the age of 11 years, he was exposed to The Beatles. He founded a band in the 1970s named the Streets, which performed mostly in the Boston area.
In 1980, Johnny formed another band named “Hidden Secret.” The group had a few local hit singles such as “No More Lonely Nights.” This single reached the top 10 on WBCN for nearly 26 weeks. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Johnny performed with many well-known musicians including Santana’s Mingo Lewis (percussionist), Delaney & Bonnie (blues and soul duo), Bobby Whitlock (keyboardist) of the Derek & the Dominos, as well as a brief stint with Doug Clifford (drummer) of Creedence Clearwater Revival.
Johnny has worked under a few record labels - Aglaophone Records, Artemis, and Favored Nations. He eventually launched his solo career in 1999 and released his debut CD entitled “Sometime Tuesday Morning.” His music style often resembles that of Danny Gatton and Jeff Beck, as well as Pat Martino. His music encompasses elements of blues, rock, and jazz. Some of the notable studio albums by Johnny include Sleight Ride, Get Inside, and Driven.
