John Moreland Information
John Robert Moreland (June 22, 1985) is an American songwriter and singer born in Longview, Texas. Moreland began playing guitar at the age of ten with the help of his father. He went to church with one of his childhood friends who wrote songs. At that time, he was 12 or 13 years, and from his visits to the church, the interest of writing songs grew.
Moreland played in his first-ever show when he was just 13 or 14 years old. During his high school in 2000, he began playing in local punk and hardcore bands. He played a major role in one of the metalcore bands based in Oklahoma called “Thirty Called Arson.” He also put together the band called “Black Gold Band” in 2005. With his band, Moreland released an album entitled “Endless Oklahoma Sky” under the Oklahoma City label called Little Mafia Records in 2008. He recorded “Things I Can’t Control” at Armstrong Recording in Tulsa with musician and producer Stephen Egerton (Descendents, All).
Moreland usually produces music that is influenced by his southern roots. A piece of music that is “joyfully and gloriously heartbreaking” is what he works on. He released High on Tulsa Heat, which was his third full-length solo record release. The album was produced by Moreland and featured Kierston White, Jared Tyler, Christ Foster, John Calvin Abney, and Jesse Aycock. He kept releasing notable studio albums throughout his careers such as Everything the Hard Way with the Dust Bowl Souls (2011), Earthbound Blues (2011), In the Throes (2013), High on Tulsa Heat (2015), Big Bad Luv (2017), and LP5 (2020).
