John Kadlecik Information
John Kadlecik (June 28, 1969) is an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter from Council Bluffs, Iowa. His music is classified as jam, bluegrass, jazz, country jazz, and folk-rock. Kadlecik is a founding member of the Grateful Dead tribute band (as a lead guitarist) and Dark Star Orchestra in 1997. He performed with original Grateful Dead members Bob Weir and Phil Lesh in Furthur, from 2009 to 2014.
Kadlecik became interested in improvisation during high school and started to teach himself the guitar. Throughout high school, he played in several garage bands.
Kadlecik began performing regularly with a Chicago area folk-rock band named Uncle Buffalo's Urban Mountain Review in 1990. Later in 1991, he joined Hairball Willie and released many recordings such as a full-length studio CD entitled, Just Defying Gravity. In 1997, Kadlecik co-founded the Dark Star Orchestra. It was initially intended to be a one night a week Dead cover band, but the Deadhead musicians began concentrating on the project full time.
Kadlecik has performed with several notable associated acts, including John K Band (2010–2014), The Mix (2003–2005), Furthur (2009–2014), Phil Lesh & Friends (2012-present), John Kadlecik Band (2015-present), and JGB (late 2019 - present).
