Joseph Satriani (July 15, 1956) is an American rock guitarist, composer, and songwriter. He was born in Westbury, New York. At the beginning of his career, he was a guitar teacher and among his famous former students are Steve Vai, Kevin Cadogan, Larry LaLonde, and Alex Skolnick. Satriani enjoyed a successful solo career as a musician. He is the best-selling instrumental rock guitarist of all time. He has over 10 million records sold and achieved around 15 Grammy Award nominations.
Mick Jagger hired Satriani as his lead guitarist for his first solo tour in 1988. After Ritchie Blackmore's second departure from Deep Purple in November 1993, guitarist Joe Satriani joined the band for a short tour. During his 1995-founded G3 tour, he collaborated with various guitarists. Since joining the ensemble in 2008, Satriani has been Chickenfoot's guitarist.
Some of the unnamed greatest hits album by Satriani from the 1970s were published on April 5, 2019. He worked on them with his band Squares. His sixteenth solo album, Shapeshifting, was released the following April.
Released as the lead single from his 18th studio album, The Elephants of Mars, "Sahara" was released by Satriani on January 19, 2022. On April 8, 2022, the album was published by earMUSIC. It marked the first time since Satriani's 1995 self-titled album that a label other than Epic Records or Sony Music had issued an album by the guitarist.
Late in 2022, Satriani announced G4 Experience V6.0, a continuation of his G3 tour project scheduled for January 3–7, 2023.
