Jennifer Batten Information
Jennifer Batten (November 29, 1957) is an American guitarist. She was born in New York City, New York. When she was eight years old, Batten's father gave her a "killer red and blue electric" guitar, and she began learning to play shortly after that. Music by the Beatles, B.B. King, Lightnin' Hopkins, and Jeff Beck all impacted her early. In 1978, Batten began experimenting with the two-handed tapping style after being inspired by Steve Lynch, a classmate at the Guitar Institute of Technology and future member of the band Autograph.
Batten's work can be heard on albums by Jeff Beck (Who Else!, 1999) and Michael Sembello (Heavy Weather, 2001), among others (1992). Many artists have included her in music videos, including Jeff Beck ("Live in Japan"), Michael Jackson ("Moonwalker"), Natalie Cole ("Wild Women Do"), Sara Hickman ("Take It Like a Man"), and Miguel Mateos ("Obsesión").
On Michael Jackson's Bad (1987–1989), Dangerous (1992), and HIStory (1996–1997) international tours, as well as his 1993 Super Bowl halftime performance, which was broadcast to nearly 1.3 billion people in 86 countries, Batten played both lead and rhythm guitar. She toured with Jeff Beck for three years in 1999 and may be heard on his Who Else albums! (1999) and You Had It Coming (2002).
