Jeff Baxter Information
Jeff Baxter (December 13, 1948) is an American guitarist. He was born in Washington, D.C. He had graduated from Watertown, Connecticut's Taft School, in 1967 and considered himself a "preppie." He was the drummer for King Thunder and the Lightning Bolts, an all-senior band at Taft. Beginning in September 1967, he studied journalism at Boston University's School of Public Communication (now the College of Communication) while maintaining a career in local bands. James Montgomery, a blues musician, was his first-year roommate. He has performed on the road as a member of the bands Elton John, Linda Ronstadt, Billy Vera and the Beaters.
He appeared on Spirit's Spirit of '84 album (also known as The Thirteenth Dream outside of the United States) in 1982. In 1984, Baxter performed at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, New Jersey, with Bob Weir, Billy Cobham, Bobby Cochran, Kenny Gradney ("Tigger"), and Dave Garland as Bobby and the Midnites. In the same year, he produced and performed on the band's Where the Beat Meets the Street album for Columbia Records, on which he also played guitar and synthesizer.
On guitar, Baxter toured with James Brown and Maceo Parker across North America in 1986. In 1990, Baxter was a part of a band called The Best along with John Entwistle, Joe Walsh, Keith Emerson, Simon Phillips, and an unheralded singer named Rick Livingstone. Before disbanding, the band released a live performance DVD in Japan. Nazareth, a hard rock band, has produced two albums. He also worked with Carl Wilson, Livingston Taylor, The Ventures, and Nils Lofgren.
